Applications are open for this year’s VIRAL hackathon

Are you a student at a university in Banja Luka, Tuzla, Bijeljina, Mostar or Podgorica? Looking for an opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time? Do you follow the latest technological trends, and usage of information technologies in agriculture is especially interesting to you? Affirmative answers to the previous questions are enough reasons to apply for the VIRAL hackathon 2022!

What awaits you?

VIRAL hackathon, organized by project partners through the project of the same name co-financed by the European Union (through the Erasmus + program) will be held from Thursday, May 12, until Saturday, May 14, 2022. This year’s edition of the hackathon is of a regional character, and you will hang out with your colleagues in Prijedor in the premises of the Agency for Economic Development of the City of Prijedor (PREDA). During 48 hours, all participants, with the help of experienced mentors, will work on the development of a mobile application that will solve the challenge of climate optimization in production facilities – data collection from sensors, autonomous regulation and management. Participants will be able to use additional equipment (Raspberry Pi and Micro Bit devices, etc.) to improve their solutions, and the hackathon program will include motivational lectures and workshops. The teams will present their ideas in front of expert commission, and the best will be awarded valuable prizes provided by the Ministry of Agriculture of Republika Srpska, Administration of Bosnia and Herzegovina for Plant Health Protection, the City of Mostar, Agrimatco and Virgin Pulse, as well as many other friends of this event.

How to apply?

Teams composed of students from the University of Banja Luka (one team), the University of Tuzla and the University of Bijeljina (one team), the University of Mostar (one team), the University of Mostar (one team), and the University of Donja Gorica (one team), can apply for the VIRAL hackathon. Those teams have to fulfill the following criteria:

  1. All team members must be students;
  2. Two team members must be students of the Faculty of Agriculture / Food Technology;
  3. Two team members must be students of the Faculty of Information Technology / Electrical Engineering;
  4. The maximum number of members per team is four.

The number of places is limited, so hurry up and sign up with your team today on the link! Project partners bear the costs of transportation, accommodation and all meals for participants. The holder of the VIRAL project is the University of Banja Luka, and the project is implemented by Dzemal Bijedic University Mostar, University of Mostar, University of Tuzla / Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Bijeljina, University of Donja Gorica, University of Waigeningen, University of Maribor, University of Bucharest, “Agro-Voće”, “Jaffa- komerc”, “13. Jul Plantaže”, Western Balkans Institute, Innovation Center Banja Luka, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center Tehnopolis, INTERA Technology Park and the Montenegrin Association for New Technologies MANT.
