From pencil to work: Press conference on project about the employment of OSI

19.07.2017

Today, as part of the project “From Pencil to Work”, the Association for the Assistance to Persons with Disabilities in Psychophysical Development (UZPD) from Niksic realized a press conference at the Innovation Entrepreneurship Center Tehnopolis. In cooperation with the Employment Service and “Alfaton Lekic” from Podgorica, this organization will enable seven persons with disabilities (OSI) to get the opportunity to complete hairdressing and cosmetic training, while five of them will have a working relationship for seven or more months.

“Two people with disabilities will continue to work for at least six months after the completion of the project – one in our Association, and the other in the hairdresser’s shop ‘Ljilja’ “, said the director of this association, Milusa Zugic.

According to her, the project will enable the extension of the services of the hairdressing salon “Status”, the first in Montenegro to employ OSI.

“It will become a hairdressing and beauty salon, and will offer services that nobody has in the city, so people with disabilities will show that they are not only valuable and useful, but also that they can be competitive with others,” said Zugic.

As part of a 12-month project, meetings with the private sector will be organized where good practice and legislation will be promoted, with the aim of reducing prejudices on the OSI, while at least 30 persons with disabilities will have free hairdressing services in “Status” during this  project.

According to Aleksandra Radulovic, counselor for professional rehabilitation in the Bureau of Labor in Niksic, the mentioned and similar projects will help to employ as many OSI as possible. In Montenegro, there are 5,829 persons with disabilities on the register of the unemployed, of which 178 are on the records of the Labor Office in Niksic, 11 in Pluzine and four in Savnik.

Marija Vesovic, representative of “Alfaton Lekic”, private institution for adult education, said that they will organize training for five OSIs within the project and provide a large amount of equipment and supplies for the hairdressing and beauty salon.

The total value of the project realized under the grant scheme is EUR 64,252.
