As an independent nonprofit organization, PRONA fosters Montenegro’s development as a knowledge-based society, popularizes science, supports young scientific talents, organizes scientific gatherings, improves scientific literacy among the population through informal education for youth, facilitates international exchanges of researchers and students, promotes strategically significant scientific projects, and conducts other activities contributing to Montenegro’s overall societal development.
Acknowledging that development, economic power, and overall prosperity increasingly depend on the scientific literacy of the younger population, PRONA has initiated and organized numerous programs over the past decade to enhance scientific literacy, including:
- 11 summer and 10 winter science schools,
- 8 summer schools “Planet in Your Hands” (Research Station “Lovćen”),
- 7 international scientific conferences,
- Astronomy Club,
- “Science News” portal,
- Dozens of workshops, seminars, and panels for students, teachers, and professors.
These initiatives shift the focus from passive lecture attendance to active, independent student work, allowing participants to explore and test their own interests and affinities. Believing that science is not just for the talented but for every child, PRONA initiated the first science festival in 2009, followed by seven annual “Researchers’ Night” science festivals in Podgorica and 30 traveling science festivals across Montenegro. These events have become traditional national highlights.
PRONA’s programs span a broad spectrum of natural, social, and engineering sciences and technologies through scientific camps, unconventional workshops, courses, seminars, and more. Through experiments, interactive lectures, and panels led by over 300 lecturers from leading research centers worldwide (Tokyo, Harvard, Lomonosov, Weizmann Institute, Berkeley, Oxford, Karlsruhe, etc.), the public gains insight into the challenges of modern science and technology, accelerating Montenegro’s integration into contemporary scientific and technological trends.
SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
- Research on innovative projects in engineering (chemistry, biology, programming, mathematics, physics, nanotechnology, biotechnology, medicine).
- Organizing creative educational workshops for children.
- Promoting science.
- Advocating the National Innovation System as a knowledge-based development concept.
- Organizing conferences and seminars.
- Business education.
- Training startups with a special focus on topics such as business plan preparation, marketing strategy development, market analysis, securing financial support in Montenegro, hosting focused group sessions, direct consulting, and drafting strategic documents (business plans, feasibility studies, justification studies, etc.), market analysis, project implementation, and idea development.
- Seminars on creative, problem-based research approaches in teaching.
