The Biotechnology Laboratory – BioLab Tehnopolis, in cooperation with the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs, continues to enhance standards in Montenegrin agriculture through the technical inspection of plant protection product application equipment and the training of its users. Today marks an important milestone in this process, as the first official label has been awarded to certify that a plant protection product application device is technically compliant and meets European Union standards.
This label serves as an official confirmation that the equipment has successfully passed the technical inspection and has been certified as fully functional. It is valid for three years, providing users with assurance that their equipment meets the prescribed standards for the safe, precise, and efficient application of plant protection products.
The efficient and responsible use of plant protection products plays a key role in increasing crop yields, reducing production costs, and protecting the environment. The effectiveness of plant protection measures depends directly on the technical condition of the equipment and the expertise of its operators. The use of precise and properly functioning equipment reduces the consumption of plant protection products, generates significant cost savings, and improves the profitability of agricultural production.
The primary function of orchard sprayers and field sprayers is to ensure the uniform distribution and precise dosing of plant protection products. Their efficiency depends on their technical condition, proper calibration, and regular maintenance. Technical inspections reduce the risk of excessive pesticide use, improve treatment efficiency, and contribute to the protection of both human health and the environment.
BioLab Tehnopolis is the only laboratory in Montenegro equipped with specialized equipment for the technical inspection of plant protection product application devices. In cooperation with the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs, a total of 195 inspections have been carried out across Montenegro over the past five years. Equipment owners have also received recommendations for improving the technical condition and performance of their devices.
In addition to technical inspections, BioLab Tehnopolis and the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs continuously organize professional training courses for professional users of plant protection products, as well as educational workshops where participants receive practical guidance on the maintenance of pesticide application equipment. These training sessions and workshops have been held throughout Montenegro, and five additional training sessions will be organized this year to further improve knowledge on the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
The awarding of the first technical inspection label marks the beginning of the implementation of European standards for the inspection of plant protection product application equipment in Montenegro and represents another step towards a more modern, sustainable, and competitive agricultural sector.

We therefore invite all owners of orchard sprayers and field sprayers to have their equipment inspected and contribute to safer, more efficient, and more responsible agricultural production.
